Cape Coast North MP Gives Three Months’ Salary To Constituents

Dr Kwamena Minta-Nyarku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, has presented his three months’ salary to some constituents for the confidence reposed in him during the December 2020 polls.

He said the gesture was to appreciate particularly, party leaders, opinion leaders, religious organizations and key personalities who worked tirelessly to recapture the Cape Coast North seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Nyarku disclosed this in an interview with the media in Cape Coast as part of his tour of the constituency on Wednesday.

The tour enabled him to meet his constituents to strengthen the relationship with all regardless of one’s party affiliation to solicit their views and continued support towards the development of the area.

Dr Minta-Nyarku explained that he gave his first salary to some key traditional leaders and religious leaders who prayed for him.

The second and third tranches according to him, went to opinion leaders and party executives who went all out for his election.

Highlighting his vision, Dr Minta-Nyarku promised total development for his constituents with a focus on entrepreneurship development, job creation, education and roads.

“My vision is to ensure total development of the area and team up with all stakeholders, especially, traditional rulers, the Assembly and all to improve the lives of the people,” he said.

He promised to get more children enrolled in school, improve the street lighting system, complete abandoned or halted projects, and construct an AstroTurf to support sporting activities, revive the Ameen Sangari factory and build two new factories to sustainably create jobs for the youth.

The Legislator expressed gratitude to the rank and file of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party for supporting him to achieve the political feat.

“I will dwell on my experience, lobbying skills and goodwill of the good people of Cape Coast North to return the constituency onto the path of rapid growth and development,” Dr Minta-Nyarku said.

I Rejected Offer To Contest As Speaker – Haruna Iddrisu

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has disclosed that he refused to put himself out to contest as Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament despite pressure from some party stalwarts to do so.

Mr Iddrisu made this revelation at a thanksgiving event held in honour of the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin in the Waala Traditional Area of the Upper West Region.

He told the congregation: “A group of NDC MPs led by Mahama Ayariga and some of our colleagues even surprisingly at that time supported by my able whip honourable Muntaka had come to my office to lure me and to encourage me to run for the position of Speaker and without any hesitation, I declined their bid.

“Going forward, I knew in my heart, God will have favour on someone amongst us, therefore, in a subsequent meeting of the Minority Caucus, I had questioned Mahama Ayariga and my colleagues that I was not too sure whether they had my mandate or my authority to proceed further with their good intentions.

“Then in a meeting with the NDC highest leadership somewhere in the offices of former President Mahama, I said to the group that my candidate for Speaker was amongst us and pointed to Alban Bagbin and honourable Aseidu Nketia. Before I could finish speaking, Aseidu Nketia held the hand of honourable Bagbin strongly and said it should be the Bagbin little did I know God’s favour was vested in him”

Mr Iddrisu expressed confidence that he knew Mr Bagbin would be fair and firm as Speaker and serve Ghana well.

Bagbin was elected as the Speaker of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic after a chaotic voting exercise in the chamber of parliament in the early hours of Thursday, 7 January 2020.

He was elected over the New Patriotic Party’s nominee, Prof Mike Oquaye, who had served as Speaker of the Seventh Parliament.
